Billie to quit Dr Who

Billie Piper is planning to leave Doctor Who, according to reports.

The former singer plays the Doctor’s sidekick Rose Tyler but has decided to move on for fear of being typecast in her fledging acting career.

According to the Daily Mirror, Billie’s spokesman confirmed to sci-fi magazine Dreamwatch that she will only appear in a few episodes of the next series.

Christopher Eccleston, who plays the Doctor, has already announced the first series will be his last and it’s thought that may have swayed Billie, 22.

A BBC insider told the paper: “It would appear that Billie has already made her mind up that she is leaving.

“She is a great actress but she does not want to be typecast.

“Christopher Eccleston’s departure had probably helped influence her decision too.”

An official BBC spokeswoman wouldn’t confirm or deny the rumours.

She said: “Billie is definitely returning for the second series and will be in a number of episodes but I can’t tell you how many.”

Christopher Eccleston has been replaced by Casanova star David Tennant. A replacement for Billie is yet to be found.
