West Brom 0–1 QPR
JAY Bothroyd headed the winner, but keeper Rob Green was man of the match as QPR put West Bromwich Albion out of the FA Cup tonight.
Bothroyd had an early effort deflected wide for the Rs, before Romelu Lukaku put Jerome Thomas clear in the other area, but the West Brom wide man dithered too much and the chance was gone.
Alejandro Faurlin then had to be alert to head a dangerous cross from Graham Dorrans away from the back stick after the Scot had intercepted a long ball on the right and sprinted for the byline, while Lukaku went closest to opening the scoring when he drew a great save from Rob Green.
Bothroyd then went down the other end and drew an equally impressive save from Boaz Myhill, while just before half time, Green got down well and stuck out a big hand to deny a cross shot from Thomas, who had charged down a clearance from Anton Ferdinand.
Markus Rosenberg had first sight of goal after the break for the Albion, heading a free kick just over as Green scurried across his line, while at the other end, Myhill scooped Faurlin's cross from the left just off the boot of the incoming Jamie Mackie.
Rosenberg then just failed to get to a Lukaku cross, while a last ditch tackle at the other end by Gareth McAukley kept out a goal-bound Faurlin effort.
Lukaku next forced Green to get down well at his near post to keep out a teasing effort following a mazy run, before sub Shaun Wright-Phillips unleashed a belter which required a block from Gabriel Tamas.
McAuley then got back well to deny Mackie after the winger burst down the right before cutting inside and eyeing up the home goal, but Bothroyd broke the deadlock with a far post header from a Faurlin corner which crept past Myhill and over the line with 15 minutes left.
West Brom almost went straight up the other end and equalised, Lukaku striking the crossbar, before Green made a string of superb saves, first from Rosenberg and then twice from Dorrans, to see the Rs through.
Rs: Green, Derry, Ferdinand, Hill, Onuoha, Park, Haim, Faurlin, Mackie (Taarabt), Cisse (Wright-Phillips), Bothroyd (Mbia). Subs not used: Murphy, Ephraim, Ehmer, Hulse.
