HARRY Redknapp insists a ‘couple of new players’ at QPR in the January transfer window will make or break their season.
The Rangers gaffer is hot on the trail of former Chelsea star Nicolas Anelka (pic) – especially as chairman Tony Fernandes has contacts ‘with Anelka’s people’ as Harry put it.
But in order to stay in the Premier League relegation fight, Rs need more than just the French striker coming to the end of his contract for Shanghai Shenhua in China.
Earlier, Redkapp reckoned he wasn’t going to throw silly money at new faces if his club were still in the mire. But heartened by a first win of the season against Fulham last weekend, has confirmed he will wring what he can out of a difficult January transfer window.
He said: “We need to get a couple in January, and if we can improve the squad – then we’ve got a chance.
“I’ve spoken to the chairman, and apparently he knows Anelka’s people – and he would certainly improve the set-up.
“But at this time of year the phone goes off every minute with agents offering players 95 percent of whom are useless, and five percent we might want to look at.
“Teams think they can screw you over because they think you’re desperate. Players that might be worth £3 million become £6 million, and we want to avoid all of that.”
