QPR’S manager is hoping to expose weaknesses at Wigan that sees the Latics short of at least eight players through injury when the two clubs clash later today.
Harry Redknapp is more than aware Wigan normally play three central defenders. But Gary Caldwell is on a one-match ban after picking up a fifth yellow card of the season, while fellow defender Maynor Figueroa also sits out.
Rs will share the unenviable record of 15 straight Premier League matches without a win if they fail at the DW Stadium, although Redknapp (pic) has nothing but praise for one of the top-flight’s unsung heroes.
He said: “Wigan have a couple of centre halves out. And they play three central defenders - not many play that way. But they’re strong up front.
“I like their manager, Roberto (Martinez) – he’s done a fantastic job. I like the owner, Dave Whelan – a former footballer and a self-made man.”
Martinez was in line for the Liverpool manager’s job in the summer but stayed with the Latics, although Redknapp could see opportunity knocking twice for the Spaniard.
“Could Roberto make it with a top four club? If you have the right players to work with, of course he could do a great job.”
