Smith set for Darlo deal

GARY Smith is poised to join League Two outfit Darlington.

Smudger was released by Brentford at the end of the season after an injury-ravaged two-year spell in west London.

An ankle injury ruled him out of most of last campaign, before being shown the door by boss Andy Scott.

A pal of the player said a move to the Quakers is a no-brainer for the former Middlesbrough and MK Dons midfielder.

Our source said: "Gary was unlucky with injuries at Brentford. He was set to play a big part before doing his ankle at the start of the season.

"But this is a good move for him. He's from the north-east, and this is a chance for a fresh start."
