Leyton Orient 1–0 Brentford
BRENTFORD endured a disappointing derby defeat after dominating for long spells at Leyton Orient tonight.
The hosts had the first sight of goal when Lee Cook's shot was blocked by Shaleum Logan, before Harry Forrester's testing free-kick was well held by home keeper Ryan Allsop.
Clayton Donaldson then failed to make the most of a decent chance before the striker forced Allsop into a good stop after latching onto a fine Adam Forshaw ball on the edge of the area.
At the other end, Jonathan Douglas blocked a Michael Symes effort at the far post after the Bees failed, while another Forrester effort was turned around the near post by Allsop.
Paul Hayes, coming into the side for last Saturday's hero Farid El-Alagui, saw his effort blocked after Logan pulled back a lovely ball into the area from Forshaw, before Cook curled a free-kick just wide of the far post in the last action of the first half.
Seconds into the second half, Harlee Dean blasted over from close range after the hosts failed to clear a corner, before some superb inter-play between Forrester and Donaldson just failed to forge an opening for Hayes.
A drilled Douglas free-kick was palmed over by Allsop, while Kevin Lisbie fired just over from 30 yards out before being just beaten to a dangerous Dean Cox ball across the area by Tony Craig.
Hayes' shot from a lovely Forrester pass was then deflected wide by former Bee Ben Chorley, before Allsop fisted away a goal-bound free-kick from Jake Bidwell.
The former Everton man's next free-kick was met at point-blank range by Dean, but it was straight at Allsop, and for all Brentford's pressure it was the hosts who took the lead with 15 minutes left when sub Ryan Brunt took advantage of the Bees failing to clear their lines from Martin Rowlands' ball into the box.
With time running out, Donaldson made to make the most of a chance created by sub Tom Adeyemi's break, but ultimately Brentford were left to rue missed chances once more.
