GRAEME Le Saux reckons old pal Roberto Di Matteo has the right qualities to build on Chelsea’s Champions League success and create a lasting legacy at Stamford Bridge.
Ex-Blues star Le Saux was watching on in Munich as his former team-mate helped Chelsea finally break their Champions League duck last month.
And now he has been given the manager’s job full-time, Le Saux believes Di Matteo will continue to be a hit if he can introduce some consistency.
Le Saux said: "I’m very happy for Roberto. He’s done a fantastic job already, and it just goes to show what you can achieve if you have the right philosophy and the players respond to you.
"You can tell from his experience as a player and his personality that he will be a good manager. He works really hard and will demand the same of his players.
"I was in Munich and did have a sense of calmness. I thought if we could keep it goalless until half-time we would win it, but even I was unsure when they took the lead.
"It was more enjoyable afterwards than watching it, and it finally made up for the heartache of 2008. But the real test will come now for Robbie as it will be his own team.
"He needs to get more consistency this season to continue that success, and with the right blend of players, I think he can do it.
"You have to remember he was only in charge for a few months and had little managerial experience at the top level, which is why it took a while to appoint him."
