Jonas Brothers: 3D concert experience

Disney churns out popstatic tunes with the Jonas Brothers, says KATE SOLOMON

IF YOU'RE not familiar with the Jonas Brothers, with their catchy pop tunes and curly-coiffed 'dos, then you probably won't appreciate Disney's latest money-spinner, Jonas Brothers: 3D Concert Experience. The Jonas Brothers are one of those bands that cause mass hysteria among a certain type of teenage girl and the film itself is the product of a sold-out three-night residency at New York's Madison Square Garden, a venue with the capacity for 20,000 screaming fans.

Filmed in 3D for no real reason, prepare to feel more than a little foolish as you don your plastic, Ray Ban-inspired 3D glasses and allow the Jonas Brothers to show you what they've got.

Starting with a staged skit to establish how hard pop stars work these days, we quickly leave behind all the pesky talking and get straight to the nitty-gritty of the concert itself. The pitch-perfect guitar-lead pop music bops along inoffensively, but there's a disappointing lack of behind the scenes footage and no real opportunity to get to know the real Jonas

Brothers, which will surely be a let-down for some fans.

There are some cool moments where the boys reach out to the camera causing a little swooning as though they might actually caress your cheek, but there's no real need for the 3D element - it's a bit of a gimmick to justify the ticket price.

Not really a movie and not really a documentary, Jonas Brothers: 3D Concert Experience sits slightly awkwardly somewhere between the two, difficult to appreciate unless you are the kind of devoted fan who'd enjoy the concert 'experience' as much as the concert itself.

For bands with lesser pulling power, this would be a DVD affair for die-hard fans only. As it is, it's a great diversion for the kids on a rainy afternoon, but not really one for the grown-ups.
