New Look to open store in Ealing Broadway

A HIGH street fashion chain will be setting up shop in Ealing Broadway by mid-2010.

The clothes giant New Look has been announced as the latest chain to join the range of shops at Ealing Broadway Shopping Centre.

Legal and General Property, which owns about 90 per cent of the units fronting The Broadway and High Street, will add New Look to its portfolio.

Construction of the store at 42b-42e The Mall is due for completion in late March, with doors opening in June.

New Look joins the relocated River Island store, which opened in November; H&M, which opened in October, and Primark, which opened its doors in June 2008.

Despite Westfield Shopping Centre announcing a record 23million visitors during its first year, Ealing Broadway has seen a 20 per cent increase in footfall since the beginning of 2008. An estimated 15.5million people visited the Broadway, which is a mere fifth of the size of Westfield.

Further, according to National Benchmark Data, Ealing Broadway is the choice for shoppers in the surrounding areas, with 96 per cent of people using it.

Helen Gordon, director of Legal & General Property, said: "Ealing Broadway Shopping Centre has proved its enduring appeal to its affluent local catchment, servicing daily shopping needs with its popular high street affordable brands and essentials."

"The increase in footfall is testament to the scheme's strengths, the letting success and the impact of the active management.

"We repositioned the centre as a convenience shopping experience to complement Westfield and have brought in a range of strategies, dramatically improving the centre's retail offer, re-locating big brands to larger more accessible units, improving the tenant mix, bringing in additional anchor tenants, introducing green lease clauses and reconfiguring space."

Ealing Broadway shopping centre was built in 1984 and refurbished in 2001/02.
