A FORMER salesman from Portsmouth could never have imagined he would be managing his own fitness studio in leafy Ealing.
But this year Roy Summers, 44, founder of Bodyline Fitness Studio in Springbridge Mews, is celebrating 10 years of getting Ealing resident's into gear.
Mr Summers fell into personal training while working in electrical sales in Portsmouth. A keen runner, he attended a personal training course in Holmes Place when a position opened up in Ealing. He has been growing his clientèle ever since.
He said: "We're the only personal training studio in W5, with a 15 strong team with an osteopath and sports massage on offer.
"The best thing about the business is that I am in charge of my own destiny. I split my time between training my personal clients and running the business, which includes all the marketing behind the scenes. I enjoy the split - personal trainers don't want to exhaust themselves by pushing their body all the time - this balance means I maintain standards as a quality trainer."
Despite the usual post Christmas detox trend, January is not the studio's busiest month.
Mr Summers said: "Surprisingly, February is busiest - but January is filled with enquiries. It takes until February before people actually come in."
Local community is important to Mr Summers. He said: "Having a physical presence in the community is just as important as online. As well as offering free fitness advice over social networking, we sponsor the Ealing half marathon and offer free post race stretches and massages. We always have a stand at Ealing Shop local where we conduct free body fat and health checks for locals.
"`We have a lot of loyal local clients. One has been with me for 12 years. Most new clients like to do a 12 session course, and we have people coming in with a time limit for their goal, an upcoming wedding perhaps. It's funny we may see that same client again in a year or two, preparing for a pregnancy, we see the cycle of life here."
