Diamond the cat
Animal Aid’s Christmas Fayre is like no other. If you haven’t been, you really are missing a treat.
When the poet, Benjamin Zephaniah, went to a similar event in Exeter last year, he said the food was great, the goodies were great and he never wanted to leave. The London Fayre this year is set to be just as good. There will be more than 90 stands selling cruelty-free and ethically produced gifts.
You can do your Christmas shopping knowing your money is going to charities and ethical traders who are trying to make a positive difference in the world. There will also be a children’s workshop and free crèche. It takes place at Kensington Town Hall, Hornton Street, London W8 on Sunday December 2 from 10am – 5pm. Admission is £2. Children under 11 are free. More details from www.animalaid.org.uk
One of the charities having a stall there will be The Mayhew Animal Home. I visited one of their stalls yesterday, at a different event, and bought some beautiful bracelets from their international section – perfect for presents. Diamond is one of the cats who, no doubt, is hoping they make enough money on their stalls to pay for her keep. After arriving as a stray, Diamond currently holds the position of being the cat waiting the longest time at The Mayhew for a home – since January 26th. She loves having her neck rubbed and playing with her catnip toys. If you are able to end Diamond’s long wait for a loving home of her own contact The Mayhew on 020 8969 0178 or see more details at www.the mayhew.org/cats/Diamond
If you have a spare morning or afternoon, Ealing Cats Protection is looking for volunteers to help in their popular Pitshanger Lane charity shop. Work will involve sorting, pricing and selling items. This is a busy shop with all money raised going towards neutering, feeding, rehoming and veterinary care for our local strays. Shifts are from 10am-1pm or 1pm -4pm Monday to Saturday.
If you think you may be able to help either call into the shop or phone them on 020 8998 3940 between Tuesdays to Saturdays.
